Wallpapers¶
Set background images or videos behind your chat to enhance the atmosphere.
Setting a Wallpaper¶
Global Wallpaper¶
A wallpaper that appears in all chats:
- Open the Wallpaper Panel
- Click Set Global and select an image or video file
- The wallpaper appears behind all your chats
Per-Chat Wallpaper¶
A wallpaper specific to one conversation:
- Open the Wallpaper Panel while in a chat
- Click Set for Chat and select an image or video file
- The wallpaper only appears in this chat
Per-chat wallpapers override the global wallpaper. AI-generated scene backgrounds override both.
Supported Formats¶
| Type | Formats | Size Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Images | Any browser-supported image type (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, …) | Standard upload limits |
| Videos | MP4, WebM | 100 MB |
Videos loop automatically and play silently in the background.
Display Settings¶
The Wallpaper Panel also exposes global rendering controls that apply to whichever wallpaper is currently visible (global, per-chat, or an AI-generated scene):
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Opacity | How prominently the wallpaper shows through the chat overlay (5%–100%, default 30%). Lower = more subtle backdrop. |
| Fit Mode | Cover (fills the screen, crops edges — the default), Contain (fits the whole image with possible letterboxing), or Fill (stretches to fill, may distort). |
These two settings are global — they aren't stored per chat.
Removing a Wallpaper¶
Click Clear in the Wallpaper Panel to remove the current wallpaper. Global and per-chat wallpapers have separate Clear buttons.
Combining with Image Generation¶
If you have image generation enabled and generate scene art, those AI-generated scene images override both the global and per-chat wallpapers while they're active — letting your background evolve with the story. The Opacity slider above still controls how prominently the scene shows through.
Tips¶
Use subtle images
Dark, low-contrast images work best as wallpapers — they set the mood without making text hard to read. The chat overlay provides some contrast, but busy images can still be distracting.
Match the theme
Pair your wallpaper with a matching theme. A cozy firelit image pairs well with warm accent colors; a starfield pairs with cool blues.
